Wood Borer Treatment in Bangalore
Precision injection therapies that eliminate wood-boring beetles and larvae from infested furniture, door frames, and structural timber — saving your investment.
What Are Wood Borers?
Wood borers are beetles whose larvae tunnel into and feed on wood — causing progressive, irreversible structural damage from the inside out. The most common species in Bangalore homes are the Common Furniture Beetle (Anobium punctatum) and the Powder Post Beetle (Lyctus brunneus), though several other species also affect structural timber.
Adult beetles lay eggs in existing holes or cracks in wood. When the eggs hatch, the larvae bore deep tunnels through the wood as they feed — often for 2–4 years before emerging as adults. By the time you see the tell-tale exit holes and fine sawdust (frass), the wood has already sustained significant internal damage.
Wood borers typically attack furniture (especially older, solid wood pieces), door and window frames, roof trusses, floorboards, and antique items. Plywood is generally resistant, but solid teak, rosewood, and soft woods used in older homes are highly susceptible.
The 4-Year Cycle
Larvae can remain hidden inside wood for 2–4 years before boring out as adults. By the time you see exit holes, the colony may be several generations old.
Identifying an Infestation
Look for small round or oval exit holes (1–2mm diameter), fine powder (frass) beneath or around furniture, and weakened wood that crumbles under light pressure.
What's at Risk
Antique furniture, solid wood door and window frames, bookshelves, decorative wood panels, staircase balusters, and roof trusses in older constructions.
Our Treatment Process
A precise, minimally invasive approach that eliminates larvae deep inside the wood without damaging the surface or finish.
01
Inspection & Assessment
Our technician taps and probes all wooden surfaces to detect hollow sections caused by larval tunneling. Exit holes are mapped, frass is examined, and the severity and species are identified to determine the appropriate treatment protocol.
02
Injection Treatment
A low-pressure injection pump forces insecticide directly into each exit hole. The chemical penetrates deep into larval tunnels, killing larvae, pupae, and any remaining eggs at their source — something surface sprays cannot achieve.
03
Surface Spray Application
A residual insecticide is applied to all vulnerable wood surfaces, especially joints, crevices, and undersides of furniture. This kills emerging adult beetles before they can lay new eggs and reinfest the wood.
04
Fumigation (For Severe Cases)
For heavily infested items or entire rooms with structural timber damage, enclosed fumigation using methyl bromide or phosphine gas achieves total eradication. This is performed by licensed operatives with sealed enclosures.
05
Preventive Coating
A borate-based preservative is applied to all treated and adjacent wood surfaces. This long-lasting chemical penetrates into the wood, making it toxic to any future wood-boring larvae — providing ongoing protection.
06
Restoration Advice
After treatment, our technician advises on restoration options for damaged pieces — from wood fillers and refinishing for minor damage to replacement of structurally compromised sections for severe infestations.
Preventing Wood Borer Infestations
Environmental and maintenance practices that significantly reduce your risk.
Keep wood furniture dry — moisture significantly increases susceptibility to borers.
Ensure good ventilation in storage areas, roof spaces, and rooms with wooden floors.
Apply a quality wood sealant or varnish to all exposed wood surfaces annually.
Inspect second-hand or antique furniture for exit holes before bringing it home.
Do not store firewood inside the house — it is a major introduction vector for borers.
Treat roof trusses during renovation with borate preservative as a preventive measure.
Address roof leaks promptly — damp roof timber is the first target for wood borers.
Schedule an annual inspection if your home contains older solid wood furniture or structural timber.
